Late-Night Restaurants in Marin County

Sometimes vacation days do not end when dinner usually begins. Maybe you spent the afternoon hiking, stayed out to watch the sunset, caught an evening event, or simply lost track of time while exploring Marin County. Then you realize it is 9:30 or 10 at night and you are suddenly hungry.

Finding late-night food in Marin County can require a little planning because many local kitchens close earlier than visitors might expect. The good news is that San Rafael and the surrounding area still have several options when you want something more substantial after a long day out.

From prime rib and Irish comfort food to burgers and late-night breakfast, here are five places to keep in mind. Hours listed below are based on current summer 2026 schedules and are always subject to change, especially on holidays. Checking with the restaurant before heading over is a good idea.

Panama Hotel Restaurant in San Rafael

Location
4 Bayview St, San Rafael, CA 94901

Hours
Tuesday through Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Friday and Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

We have some exciting news for Panama Hotel guests and San Rafael locals. The Panama Hotel Restaurant has officially reopened. The restaurant is currently in a soft reopening phase and serving dinner Tuesday through Saturday, so operating hours may change as service continues to expand.

The new dinner menu gives guests plenty of reasons to stay close to the hotel for the evening. Start with something fresh like the Ahi Tuna Ceviche, prepared with avocado, red onion, cucumber, cilantro, serrano-lime juice, and corn tortilla chips. If you are in the mood for something crispy, try the Calamari Fritti served with guajillo aioli.

Dining with someone special or simply want to sample a few different flavors? The shareable selections are perfect for the table. The Mini Diver Scallop Tostadas come with smashed avocado, red radishes, and pico de gallo, while other options include local oysters, a whole artichoke, and a Marin French cheese selection.

For the main course, seafood lovers can order the King Salmon with garlic mashed red potatoes, caramelized onions, green beans, and herb beurre blanc. If steak sounds better after a full day exploring Marin County, El Nueva York features a hand-cut 10-ounce Black Angus steak served with Panama fries and chimichurri sauce. Other dinner choices include Prawns Étouffée, Mussels Marineros, grilled pork chop, chicken, and the Panama Burger.

And save room for dessert. The restaurant’s sweet endings are made in-house and include Lemon Tart with mixed berry coulis and whipped cream, Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée, Bread Pudding with tequila butter, and Lava Cake with crème anglaise and fresh berries.

For Panama Hotel guests, having dinner just steps from your room makes an evening in San Rafael even easier. Enjoy a relaxed meal, order dessert, and simply head back upstairs when the night is over. Since the restaurant is currently in its soft reopening period, guests should confirm the latest hours before dining.

Pete’s 881 Club in San Rafael

Hours
Open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.
Kitchen serves food until midnight Sunday through Wednesday and until 1:00 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.

If you want one of the strongest true late-night dining options in San Rafael, Pete’s 881 Club belongs near the top of the list. This longtime local spot combines a restaurant, sports bar, and card room, giving it an atmosphere that feels very different from a typical late-night chain restaurant.

The menu leans toward satisfying pub-style food, making Pete’s especially appealing after a long day of sightseeing. Guests can find full meals, appetizers, sandwiches, and its well-known prime rib offerings. It is the type of place to visit when you want something hearty rather than just a small snack before bed.

Because the kitchen stays open until 1:00 a.m. from Thursday through Saturday, Pete’s is particularly useful for travelers arriving late in San Rafael or returning from an evening elsewhere in Marin County.

The Burren House in Downtown San Rafael

Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

For a late meal with the atmosphere of an Irish neighborhood pub, head to The Burren House on Fourth Street. It has a lively but comfortable setting that works well when you want dinner, drinks, and somewhere to relax rather than rushing through a quick meal.

The food takes inspiration from Irish pub classics. You can find homemade shepherd’s pie, bangers and mash, pub sliders, chicken curry, wings, and other hearty dishes. There are also plant-based choices, including a vegan shepherd’s pie, so groups with different preferences have options.

Friday and Saturday are the best nights for late-night visitors since the restaurant remains open until 1:00 a.m. Its downtown San Rafael location also makes it a convenient choice for travelers staying nearby.

Flatiron in San Rafael

Location
724 B Street, San Rafael, CA 94901

Hours
Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
Tuesday through Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to midnight
The kitchen generally closes at 10:00 p.m. and stays open until midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Flatiron is another excellent weekend option if your idea of late-night food includes burgers, wings, tacos, and a lively sports-bar atmosphere. The restaurant describes its menu as upscale pub grub, and there is plenty to choose from when you arrive hungry.

Options include burgers, jumbo wings, sliders, fish tacos, pulled pork tacos, salads, sandwiches, and fries. The rotating beer selection and televisions also make Flatiron a natural stop when there is a game on and you want to stay out later.

The important detail for hungry night owls is the kitchen schedule. Although the bar remains open later during the week, Friday and Saturday are when food service extends until midnight. If you are planning a late dinner rather than drinks, keep that distinction in mind.

The Cheesecake Factory in Corte Madera

If everyone in your group wants something different, The Cheesecake Factory at The Village at Corte Madera is an easy option. It is especially useful on Friday and Saturday when the restaurant stays open until 11:00 p.m.

The menu is famously large, with more than 250 dishes ranging from appetizers and salads to burgers, sandwiches, pasta, seafood, and full entrées. Of course, there is also a large cheesecake and dessert selection. That variety can make it a good choice for families or groups who cannot agree on one type of cuisine.

It is not as late as Pete’s or The Burren House, but an 11:00 p.m. closing time on weekends still makes it a helpful option for a later dinner in Marin County.
